2021 Winner: Grace Schuler
Grace Schuler is from Gaithersburg, Maryland, but now resides in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with her older brother, Van. She is a sophomore hospitality management student at Drexel University and hopes to graduate with a BS in hospitality management, focusing on event planning in 2024. In addition to attending classes, she enjoys joining school clubs, doing volunteer work, singing/listening to music, spending time with her family and friends, and adventuring around Philly to find the best foods!
Reaction Statement (2021): “Thank you so much for awarding me your scholarship! You have helped lighten my financial burden, which allows me to focus more on the most important aspect of school – learning. I am grateful for the time your scholarship will give me to focus on learning and continuing with my volunteer efforts. Having some academic and financial support is also a relief as the pandemic has hit the hospitality industry, and my event planning position is challenging. Although I have been working since I was 14 and will continue to do so throughout college, scholarships such as this will allow me to complete my education. Once again, thank you for the vote of confidence and the scholarship.”
Reaction Statement Three Years Later! (2024): “Thank you again for awarding me with the Safe Driving Scholarship in 2021.
I am grateful for your generosity and cannot tell you how helpful this scholarship was to me during my five-year hospitality management studies at Drexel University. I was truly grateful to have been the recipient, not only for financial reasons but also because it was an honor to be considered worthy by professionals such as yourself. Your scholarship allowed me to have experiences I would never have had otherwise. For example, in my senior year, I was able to take on an internship with the event planning team at The Ritz- Carlton in S.t Thomas, U.S.V.I. to learn about resort management. It was also possible for me to volunteer my time to serve as the president of the Drexel Hospitality Society for two years. These are things I could not have considered doing without scholarship support from organizations like yours as I would have been working more hours to pay for school. As I enter my career in event planning, I hope to continue to develop events that resolve hard issues and find solutions for those in need. I believe with this career I can make a difference that can improve lives. By awarding me with your scholarship, you gave me the freedom to focus more on learning and less on funding my education. I so appreciated that gift of time. Your generosity has inspired me to help others and give back to the community. I hope one day I will be able to help other students achieve their goals just as you have helped me. Thank you again.”
